I was told that their service support ended 5 years ago but they still gave me some suggestions, however, as they said, there might be multiple causes that are causing these problems. They do not have service support at all from the vendor but I reached them for assistance.

There is no AV software present at the POS. Pinging just worked from waitress to POS but not the other way around. Yes, file sharing is enabled at the POS terminal. The POS terminal had like a year without receiving any kind of service. I moved the database to the waitress station and tried to link the POS terminal there but the waitress workstation simply can not be reached from the POS. The OS is not in write protect mode and for worse it has system restore turned off Rob :(. Ethernet ports on the machines don't have error codes or faulty drivers. Thank you for your responses! I checked all the cables and network devices and they are just working fine. This may require the purchase of a service contract, however, or you may be able to convince them to sell you a single support incident. You may find it worthwhile to contact the vendor for additional support. (I wound up not getting paid for the hours & hours I spent because, of course, I "didn't fix the problem.") But I digress. They were out of support with their POS, were having similar connectivity issues, and we had no way to get behind the write protection. I had a horrid experience with a third restaurant several years ago. I've two restaurants in my client list & I never touch their POS systems. That you're involved seems odd, however, as most restaurant POS systems are provided under contract by the vendor. I know it's this way on the XP Embedded industrial controllers I support. What you may find, however, is that the terminal has some for of "write protect" mode that prevents any changes you make from persisting between reboots. This is normal, and in many cases completely expected.

Any ideas would greatly help!Įmbedded versions of Windows XP often have the firewall service disabled. I was thinking of moving the database to a cloud service as a temporary fix but I am still unsure because the restaurant would depend on the internet service. Business owners said that the cashier station has 8 years in service and there is no maintenance record.Ībout two months ago (when I set up their new PCs at the office) I suggested them to have a "back up station" so whenever a cashier station needs repair it can quickly be replaced with the back up while being serviced with no major interruption. Since it is an embedded version, I can not use sfc /scannow and the system restore feature was never turned on. Both stations are using the same workgroup but the cashier station is just invisible in the network, it has internet connection but it is unable to communicate with the other stations and devices in the network. I ran spiceworks network scan and the result was an error stating that the machine appears to have no open ports or a firewall misconfiguration.
When running some tests at the cashier station it is unable to share a file, unable to change firewall settings (error message stating "can't start firewall service".), unable to use ipconfig/release and renew commands because "RCP server unavailable" (I checked service dependencies and they were all started). The problem is that the waitress station can no longer access the shared database. The "waitress" station uses the database that is stored at the cashier station.

The software used at the place is called Aldelo (version 3.80) they have one more station that serves just to input new orders (the waitress station uses windows xp professional service pack 2).
The machine is using Windows XP Embedded Point of Sale 1.0, has a celeron processor, lacks CD-ROM drive and it serves as the cashier station. Recently I had the task to fix a POS at a restaurant (specs are given at the following link ) that has some network connection problems.
